Rainbow lashes

Hello ladies,

I have another quick Halloween look for you today. I layered Fantasy Makers Black Magic over Sally Hansen Black Diamond. Then I created a satin finish with Essie Matte About You top coat. The rainbow bar glitter is so evocative. It makes me think of colored mascara, embroidery floss, tinsel, and bits of exotic plume. Lisa suggested computer wires. I recall illustrations in old science textbooks showing neurological information being sent. I am also reminded of collections of cells. Fascinating!

Black Magic is available now  in the Fantasy Makers display in the Halloween aisle. The tombstone bottle is so charming! I felt comfortable holding the shape while painting. The bar glitter is thin enough to adhere easily without springing up. After painting each nail, I recommend gently tapping the free edge to secure any protruding threads of glitter. If you decide to use a matte topcoat over Black Magic try a shimmer base of color in lieu of a creme formula. Sally Hansen Black Diamond has a silver shimmer with sparse rainbow micro glitter. The silver is suspended by the matte overlay. It creates a charcoal velvet curtain behind the bar glitter.

For the manicure I used one coat of CND Stickey, two coats of Sally Hansen Black Diamond, two coats of Fantasy Makers Black Magic, one coat of CND Air Dry and one coat of Essie Matte About You. It layered quickly. I hope you enjoyed the finished result.

Happy painting, ladies!

  1. I love this look. Reminds me of looking around in my Mother's tin of embroidery threads. That's because I had messed it all up. I have this polish, so I'll have to try this out. I don't have the Black Magic. I'll just have to experiment. I love that bottle. The flower your holding is one of the Fall flowers I love. I can never remember the name of it! My Mother used to grow them for me. They look like feathers. I also adored the color. She also grew them in a gold I think.

  4. Now, please don't think I am odd because this is going to sound WEIRD but I had an overwelming urge and wish to bite your nails to be able to feel the texture. Oh dear... no one is going to follow me after this... They look so tough and strong, I find matte polish interesting in the fact that it makes nails look like concrete (to me anyway...) After all that - I do really like today's mani Diana. I need to learn that sometimes a diminutive response would suffice ;) xx

  10. Lucy: Thank you. I loved playing with thread as a girl. I think some of that fascination with color translated into my love of nail polish. I believe the feathery flowers are called Astilbe.

Kae: Thanks! I think glitter is my favorite formula to change to matte.

gildedangel: Thanks so much! I do love the bar glitter in Black Magic.

Danielle: Surprisingly, the bar glitter was so fine, it didn't produce much texture. I will come up with more nibble worthy manicures in the future. I'm glad you liked the look though. :)

The Princess of Polish: Thank you sweetie!

Skye: Thank you. I love combining matte top coat and glitter. :)

augusta: I found it in the Halloween aisle and not with the regular polishes. I hope you find a bottle soon.

AllYouDesire: Isn't the bottle charming? Glad you like the nails too! ;)

Jamie D. : Please do give it a try!

Nicole: Thank you! The RIP bottle is half the fun. :)
