Hothouse flowers

Hello ladies,

The weather in Philadelphia today was much like living in a greenhouse. I decided it was time to bring out the neons! Warhol is the first shade I am going to share from Color Club's Poptastic Collection. These neons will be appearing on my nails to coordinate with summer temperatures.

Using white Konad special polish, I stamped part of the daisy image from Bundle Monster plate BM12. There were two smaller flowers I excluded. I thought they would read more as dots than as flowers on the nail. In the center of the larger daisies, I placed hot pink crystals. For the three smaller flowers to the side I alternated with pink pearls, mirror gems, and white pearls. I decided one flower for my pinky nail made sense. My little nail works better as a bud vase than housing a giant bouquet.

I will ask you to use your imagination when viewing the photos. Neons become shy around digital cameras. In real life, Warhol is a searingly bright pink.

My owl ring is peeking out near a purple petal.

I painted three coats of Warhol over two coats of Brucci 2 in 1 Nail Perfection, a whitening base coat. I discovered a little trick for speeding up the dry time when trying to build a polish to opacity. I started with my whitening base coat the night before and added quick dry spray. Drying drops would also be useful for this purpose.

I completed the manicure in the morning. This method worked so well! I didn't have to worry about waiting for additional dry time for the added coats. There was no bubbling from my being too impatient to let each coat dry sufficiently before painting on another. I think this is going to be my new standard for applying neons and pastels.

What do you ladies think about neons? It's a category of polish I never had experimented with before I started blogging. I now love wearing neon shades in July and August especially. I think of them as part of summer, like picnics and fireflies.

Warhol was sent to me for review. This shade along with the entire Color Club Poptastic Collection can be purchased from victoriasnailsupply.com.

Happy painting, ladies!

  1. Whew! The color is awesome! Perfect for summertime. ^-^

I love your nail art! You have got quite a talent! ^-^

I love having long nails & painting them, but I'm such a klutz, that I always end up breaking them... You, however, inspire me to try harder =D
Looking forward to seeing all the fun you come up with in the future. ^-^

  4. Wow, your manis keep getting better and better! I love those flowers and how you emebellished them with the pearls and crystals. The pink is also gorgeous. I wish the weather was conducive to wearing neons here. Instead we're shivering through a very cold winter here in Oz.

  6. Oooooh, beautiful - I just love it! The flowers and the little gems look gorgeous, and suit this mani so well. I'm quite interested in the Poptastic collection, especially MODern Pink, Age of Aquarius, Puccilicious and Twiggie, so I hope to see more!

By the way, I am SO jealous of your owl ring... LOVE.

  8. I like most neons, especially during spring and summer, they just match the weather so well. And the bright colours always cheer me up. :)
It's a pity that not many people get to see this mani in real life, it's so cute though, but you only wear your manis for a day or so, right?

  11. neons are pretty, but I have not had good experiences with them. I have the whole ElectroCandy collection, and the polishes look like plastic on my nails. I don't know what I will do to make them wearable. Sorry for the rant. I think Poptastic looks great on you,Diane!

  12. pretty as always and you found the daisies to photograph it with
i tend to end up putting a sparkle top coat on neons so they are not only bright but blingy too don't know why i guess it is the finish of a neon that makes me want to add the sparkle

  13. I love this!! Also, I totally know what you mean about doing your manicure in stages. I've found I'm much less likely to butcher it if I do a bit here, then wait a while, then do a bit more later. Then again, I'm also really easily distracted, so sometimes I don't do it on purpose!!

  14. Nails look amazing! ^^ I personally find myself using cool colors more often, or darker shades since I don't think I can pull off neons or some bright colors, but they do look great on you, so one day I just might give it a try. c:
