My little Mermaid kitty

Hello ladies,

I am happy to introduce the newest member of the Painted Lady Fingers' household: Mermaid! This sweet and playful kitty was rescued off the street by my friend Stacia from college. I offered to help my friend Drew place her in a good home in Center City. Once I saw her, I knew she was meant to live with me and my ragdoll cat, Fortune.

Mermaid has been with us for just over a week. She acquired her name because of an usual grey marking on her forehead that resembles the tail fin of a mermaid. She loves the bathtub and is fascinated by the sound of water emerging from the faucet. Like mermaids of myth and legend, she also adores collecting treasure. The area beneath the futon serves as her sea cave. There she keeps all of her trinkets. If her toys are missing, I have an idea where they have been assembled. Anything that catches her fancy can be found there. I once saw her trotting across the apartment with a dish glove.

Mermaid enjoys sharing food with me. Her favorite treat is rose petal jam on honey wheat bread. She also loves sweet potatoes, peanut butter with strawberry preserves, marinated tofu and garlicky marinara sauce with romano cheese.  She has no interest even in the best quality cat treats.

My name is Mermaid.

You are welcome to adore me.

The birds outside the window are making such delicious sounds .

I am the Queen of Sunbeams!

Can you see my mermaid's tail?

It looks a bit like what my dolphin friends have.

With all this modeling

I must rest my cheekbones.

I hope you all enjoyed Mermaid's introduction. Do your pets have any interesting food preferences or entertaining habits?

Happy painting, ladies!

  5. Why hello, Mermaid. It is a pleasure to meet you. You are lovely, indeed.

Mermaid has interesting food preferences. I have never met a kitty who likes rose petal jam. :D

MY cat, Marley likes cantaloupe and my dog, Sabryna is nuts for lettuce. She eats it by the pile, right off the head or tossed in a fresh, crisp salad.

  8. I'm glad you finally posted pictures of her. She is SO beautiful.

I have two cats, one of them is only interested in tuna and milk (in regards to human food). Now my other cat has a sweet tooth, she'll eat all kinds of sweet bread, pastries, cake, cookies, even candy! She also loves dairy things like milk, cheese, ice cream and especially yogurt. Another weird thing that she will eat are peas. She loves them more than tuna!

  10. What a beautiful, regal girl! I love her kitty poses :-) Congratulations on bringing Mermaid into your life!

Cats are such wonderful companions. Our kitty Princess Leia loves her fuzzy red ball. She "talks" to it, and likes to put in in unattended shoes. Our boy Samwise loves refried beans and anything dairy (yogurt, etc). They both add a lot to our lives :-)

  11. My cat Paloma is the same way with water! Every time I take a shower she sits on the ledge between the cloth and plastic curtain and tries to attack the stream of water when I spray it on the plastic curtain. When I'm done she gets in the tub and sits in there for a while. Cats are so adorable.

    Mermaid's coat is beautiful.

  12. Mermaid is amazing and for a week and more you know a lot about her, that is love :) I have white turkish angora and his name is Moni. Recently we made scratching place on one of the table legs and we made him scratch there with giving him treats after that. Now every time I'm near the table he starts to scratch his nails and looking for treats :).

  18. Awwh, she's so pretty! From what you described on Twitter, I thought she was a kitten, not a full grown-ish cat! Hooray for rescue kitties! That's how I got my boys, Marvin and Brownie.

The boys are pretty good when it comes to not eating human food. My girl, Aaakie, though? She can hear the rattle of a McDonalds' bag from outside, even if she's sleeping under my dresser (the farthest point from outside.) She loves their fries, and if you don't share them with her...she gets an attitude.

Now, my mom's old cat? He would turn up meat (except pork) for...veggies. He was the first vegetarian cat I'd ever seen. Then again, she'd have to tie him up outside otherwise he wouldn't go potty.

  21. She is so pretty :) I loved reading her introduction. Her food preferences are also funny :)
I have a cat who loves salad, spinach and is interested by anything green ... Maybe a bit strange for a kitty :)

  22. She's so pretty, love the name!!! My cat (Peter) never drank milk, even when we bought him home aat maybe 3 months old (we are not sure since he's been rescued)! He just sniffs it, then look at you and "meaow" then he goes away, completely uninterested!
